A TEAM will set out on Sunday for a fundraising ride around the district.
Richard Witherington will be joined by Kevin Eales and three others for a 100-mile bike ride around Daventry and through many of the villages on Saturday and Sunday.
They will be raising funds for the Down’s Syndrome Group Northamptonshire and the Children and Families International Foundation based in Welton. The foundation supports orphans whose parents died from AIDS all over the world, but mainly in Malawi.
It will be a personal mission for Mr Witherington as the first charity has helped his two-year-old daughter Evie who has Down’s Syndrome.
He said: “They have done a number of things to help her out. As well as general help and support they have taken her on trips to places such as Legoland and Alton Towers which is a great experience for her.
“These are two very worthy charities who do a lot of good work and we wanted the chance to be able to help them out.”
Neither of them have done anything like this before but they are feeling confident.
Mr Witherington added: “We have been doing some training, mostly in the rain, which has been good preparation.
“We just hope it stays dry and we can raise as much money as possible for charity.”
The pair will be finishing their ride at The Saracen’s Head in Brook Street, Daventry. Anyone who wishes to donate to their cause can do so by going to the pub from 4pm on Sunday.
