Number of county councillors may be cut

THE number of councillors on Northamptonshire County Council could be cut in a bid to save around £150,000 per year.

A paper published shows the three main political parties have been holding talks about the possibility of reducing the size of the authority. They have agreed the council should be cut from 73 councillors down to a slimmed-down figure of between 56 and 59.

If the plans are backed by councillors they will be passed to the Local Government Boundary Commission for England for final approval.
