New archbishop is welcomed

THE BISHOP covering the Daventry area has welcomed the appointment of the new Archbishop of Canterbury.

The Bishop of Peterborough, the Rt Revd Donald Allister has publicly welcomed the appointment of the Rt Revd Justin Welby.

Bishop Donald Allister said: “I am delighted at Justin Welby’s appointment as our next archbishop. He is a wise and godly man, and a brave one to accept this offer. I gladly assure him and his family of our prayers and full support.

“I look forward to working with him as happily as I have with Archbishop Rowan.”

Justin Welby became rector of Southam in 1995 and later canon residentiary of Coventry Cathedral. In 2007 he was appointed Dean of Liverpool and in November 2011 he became Bishop of Durham.
