A FORMER world record holder is gearing up for a charity bike challenge later this month.

Maria Costello MBE, from Spratton, will take part in a 12-hour non-stop spinning challenge at a fitness club in Northampton.

The 38-year-old, who used to hold the world record for being the fastest woman to lap the Isle of Man TT course on her motorbike, will raise cash for Coming Home, a charity which helps house injured and disabled servicemen and women.

She said: “It’s going to be a tough challenge but it’s all for a fantastic charity.”

The challenge will take place at Dallington Racquets and Fitness Club in Northampton on February 20. The cyclists will be joined by a new instructor and class each hour, and players from Northampton Saints rugby team will also be taking part.

Members of the public wanting to take part can call the club on 01604 592929. Participation costs £5.
