Man is robbed of life savings

A DAVENTRY man’s entire life savings totalling tens of thousands of pounds have been stolen from his home.

Robbers broke into the victim’s Ashby Road home and attacked his dog before making off with money from a safe.

The 61-year-old, who has asked not to named for fear of reprisals, has been left shaken following the raid which, he says, has left him too scared to carry on living in his house.

The robbers are believed to have jumped over a wall at the front of house between noon and 1pm on Tuesday when they were confronted by the victim’s three-year-old bullmastiff, Ollie.

It is believed the dog was held down by members of the gang while the animal was then beaten with a metal bar and a golf club.
