Man hunt costs police £1 million

NORTHAMPTONSHIRE Police has so far spent around £1 million hunting for suspected killer Anxiang Du.

Jifeng ‘Jeff’ Ding, 46, Helen Chui, 47, and their daughters Xing, 18, and Alice, 12, were brutally stabbed to death at their home in Northampton in April last year.

Since then teams of experts have been drafted in to help the 11-month investigation at various stages and to assist the dedicated team of detectives hunt the murder suspect.

The cost of the police inquiry has been released after it emerged call centre staff missed a possible chance to catch the murderer following the “unacceptable” way a 999 call, made by Xing, was handled.

The call is believed to have been made by the teenager as her family were being murdered downstairs. The call was traced to a wrong address and then downgraded.

Du, who police believe killed the Dings following a bitter court battle, has not been seen since CCTV cameras captured him walking close to Edgware Road in London the day after the murders.
