Man appears in court after death crash on the A5

A MAN charged with causing death by careless driving following a crash between two lorries on the A5 has appeared in court.

Adrian Dancu is accused of causing the death of Tim Callaway in a crash which happened on the A5 at Watford on June 22.

At around 1am, two HGVs travelling in opposite directions on the A5 collided with each other, resulting in a fire.

Mr Callaway, 47, of Luton, died at the scene.

Dancu, of no fixed abode, appeared for a short hearing at Northampton Magistrates’ Court this morning, via video link from HMP Woodhill.

Via a Romanian interpreter, he spoke only to confirm his name and that he understood proceedings.

His case was committed to Northampton Crown Court for a preliminary hearing on August 3.

No application for bail was made and Dancu was remanded into custody.
