A Long Buckby man accused of drowning his neighbour’s dog appeared in front of magistrates in Northampton to face charges of causing unnecessary suffering to an animal.

Stephen Woodhouse, of Old Watling Street, Long Buckby, is alleged to have killed seven-year-old border terrier Meg on July 26.

The pet belonged to a family who live two doors away.

The 52-year-old man appeared at Northampton Magistrates’ Court yesterday afternoon to face a charge under the Animal Welfare Act 2006 of causing unnecessary suffering to an animal, resulting in its death.

Wearing a dark suit and with short grey hair, he spoke only to confirm his name and address at the hearing.

His case was adjourned until later this month to give time for the prosecution and defence to agree the facts of the case.
