TWO teenage brothers are going head to head in a charity dance competition to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Kyle Cherry, aged 15, from Daventry, is one of the celebrity contestants in this year’s Strictly Northampton, which will take place at the Royal & Derngate on Saturday, November 24.

The England badminton player, will compete against his 18-year-old brother Kieran, who is one of the professional dancers in the charity competition.

Kyle said he was looking forward to some light-hearted brotherly rivalry, and added: “Kieran looks good doing it so I wanted to give it a go. He wanted me to do it.

“I beat him in everything else so he wanted to beat me in this, but I’m too good to lose to him.”

This year will be Kieran’s third Strictly Northampton and in the first year he danced with celebrity contestant, Image magazine editor Ruth Supple.

Ruth became one of the semi-professional dancers in the show last year and won the competition with partner Northants County cricketer Rob White. She will this year partner Kyle to perform a cha cha, American smooth waltz and a freestyle number in front of a panel of judges.

Kyle said: “I watch Strictly Come Dancing on the TV and it looks good. It’s something different and I will give it a go.”

The event will support Macmillan Cancer Support’s appeal to raise £1.55 million for a new haemotology unit at Northampton General Hospital.

The boys’ mother, Debbie Cherry, said: “It will be a bit strange having two sons in the competition but I am very proud of them.

“I have got to vote for both of them and that will make even more money for the charity,” she added.

There are about 100 tickets left for the show, which was a sell-out last year.
