YOUNG people raised more than £200 for charity as part of a summer activity scheme.

The fortnight of fun was called ‘Summer Activity Quest’ and run by Daventry and District Housing (DDH) with support from Rural Enterprises CIC.

In total 23 children aged six to 17 took part in a free daily programme of sports, crafts and community work.

To raise money for Birmingham Children’s Hospital and children’s brain cancer charity Abbie’s Army, the youngsters baked and sold cupcakes, ran a raffle and served meals to residents in sheltered housing.

Young people served meals to 33 residents of Warwick Court, Daventry and Greenhill Court in Long Buckby.

Oliver Bate, 10, of The Grange, Daventry, was one of those to take part. He said: “It was good to be able to help people. I liked the gardening and making ice-cream too.”

Oliver’s mum, 29-year-old Kelly Smith, said: “Oliver really enjoyed the activities and I think he got a lot out of it, especially visiting the older people.”
