The archive and heritage service at Northamptonshire County Council (NCC) has unveiled an online guide to the county’s First World War history.
The website will hold listings of upcoming commemorative events as well as hosting the stories of locals such as Fred Lee, a soldier in the county’s yeomanry who captured an aerial image of the trenches.
The website will also feature Alfred Leete, a Northamponshire born artist known for his famous depiction of Lord Kitchener for the cover of London Opinion in September 1914.
Leader of NCC Cllr Jim Harker, said: “The First World War was a landmark conflict in our nation’s history and in many ways shaped the way we live our lives today.”
He added: “What’s great about this website is that it acts as a focal point for all the stories from this period and a bank of information which helps remember how brutal the events were.”
The website is set to grow over the next four years as more stories come to light and more anniversaries of significant events are commemorated.
