Volunteers sought to help improve canals

DAVENTRY District Council (DDC) is calling on volunteers to come forward and help improve the biodiversity of local canals.

The council is working with The Wildlife Trust, British Waterways and the British Trust Conservation for Volunteers on a programme to make improvements to canal sites in the district.

Improvements will include woody growth clearance, hedge laying, clearing side ponds of invasive species and building habitats for bats and otters.

A work programme has been developed for 2012.

Anyone who is interested in volunteering on the project can contact Alice Ellis at Daventry District Council on 01327 871100 or go to www.btcv.org.uk/volunteer.
