Village groups get cash boost from fete fund

AROUND 20 village groups have received a grant from the Weedon fete committee following a record-breaking village fete fundraiser that raise almost £6,000.

The Weedon cub scout group will get the biggest share of the fund receiving £1,000 to go towards new furniture for their scout hut.

A further £4,700 has been split between other village organisations including Weedon Bec Pre-School, the Sports Association, St Peter and St Paul’s Church, Friends of Weedon School Association, Friends of the Fire Services National Museum Trust, Women’s Institute and the Pocket Park Committee, to name a few.

After such a successful year two of the fete’s organisers have decided to stand down to give the opportunity to someone else within the village.

Weedon Parish Councillor Libby Hart and Parish Clerk Sue Halkett have been organising the fete since 2005 as chairperson and secretary.

The pair have helped to raise £35,000 over seven years for village groups but have decided to hand over the jobs.

Mrs Hart said: “We have had some brilliant arena events and some wonderful VIP guests and we are confident there are other people in the village with plenty of enthusiasm to take the fete forward to new levels and to raise lots more cash to support our village groups.”

Anyone who would like to lead the fete committee should contact Mrs Hart on 01327 341816 or Mrs Halkett on 01327 341057.
