Nobody has been charged in relation to Mr Brickwood’s death and his son Dale has appealed for people to watch the programme to try to bring his killer to justice.

Writing on Facebook, Dale Brickwood said: “Crimewatch is doing a reconstruction of what they think happened on 26th September to my dad, who was brutally murdered in his own home.

“Hopefully people will come forward with information, we as a family need justice for our dad. All he ever done in his life is help others, now we need your help.

“The more people that see Crimewatch the better, someone knows exactly what happened that night. How would you cope if your mum or dad or son or daughter was attacked in there own home and murdered and over 4 months past still nobody charged.

“This will never go away, so if you know anything, tell the police , help us get some sort of closure, share it all over the net please , RIP Dad xxxx always in my heart xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx”

David Brickwood’s murder will appear on Crimewatch on BBC1 at 9pm on Monday, February 8.
