IT was a grim start to the New Year for staff at one Daventry store when they returned to work after the holidays to find the front window vandalised.
On Wednesday last week retail assistant Hazel Bird, 30, found the large glass frontage of the Max Spielman photography shop in Bowen Square smashed with a letter from police waiting for.
She said: “It wasn’t a very nice way to start the New Year but the police were really good and they left us a letter saying it had happened at 12.20am on New Years Day.”
Police arrested a 23 year old man in connection with the incident and staff at the shop have agreed to a community resolution process meaning the man will pay for repairs to the window.
Manager at the shop Andrea McKenzie, 25, said she didn’t think this had happened before and that it was likely to be a one-off incident.
Miss Bird added: “I have been working here nine years and this is the first time we have had any window broken.”
Miss McKenzie is waiting for a quotation from a window repair company before she knows the full extent of the costs incurred.
