A TRUST set up in memory of a popular Daventry man has handed over a cheque of £4,000.

The money has been handed to the Cawthorne Ward at Danetre Hospital which is designed to help people live well until they die.

It has been donated by the Gary Barton Memorial Trust, set up in Daventry and run by a group of people including his wife Julia.

Gary died of cancer three years ago at the age of 45. The trust was created to provide and assist in the provision of facilities and support services and equipment to both the Cawthorne Ward and the Talbot Butler Ward at Northampton General Hospital which helped out Gary during his 11-month battle with the treatment.

The money will be used for three new specialist mattresses while the trust has raised more than £12,000 in the past three years for various equipment. It has come from fundraising events and support from the local community and businesses who helped to raise the cash.
