Tributes to Daventry man after sudden death

A WELL-known Daventry man died suddenly from a heart attack on Saturday morning.

Peter Cowley, 55, who lived on Greenhill Crescent on the town’s Headlands estate, passed away at his home.

One of his sons Michael said: “He was liked by everyone who knew him – and he knew a lot of people.”

Mr Cowley played skittles when he was younger at the Falconer pub in Ashby Road, and more recently at the old Ex-Servicemen’s Club.

Michael’s brother Jeff said: “He was raised in Badby and Staverton and then moved to Daventry.

“He brought the countryside with him. Peter kept fancy pigeons and ferrets. He could build anything out of wood.

“But the death of his wife Kate in 1999 really affected him. It’s fair to say a little piece of him died with her. He wasn’t the same afterwards.”

Another one of Mr Cowley’s sons Colin said: “He was a father figure for lots of people on the estate. He was there for anybody, and usually could give good advice. He had a good sense of humour, and it was very dry.”

Mr Cowley is survived by his mother and father, Janet and John, brother Philip, sisters Debbie and Yvonne, children Sarah, Michael, Colin and Keane, plus grandchildren.

Funeral arrangements are yet to be announced.
