Triathlon returns to Daventry

Last year's Daventry Sprint Triathlon

Last year's Daventry Sprint Triathlon

Sunday, August 31 will see the return to Daventry of the highly successful Daventry Sprint Triathlon.

A colourful event which, this year, is open to 350 novices and experienced triathletes.

With just less than two weeks to go, race places have been snapped up for this event organised by Rugby Triathlon Club.

Race director Garry Haynes said: “It’s brilliant that so many have signed up for the race already and even better that they are a mix of men and women and expert and novice. We have increased the number of entry places this year so all we need to add is great local support to make the competitors’ day.”

Councillor Alan Hills, Daventry District Council’s community, culture & leisure portfolio holder said: “Each year this event gets bigger and bigger and it’s so wonderful to see so many people from the community getting behind it. Last year we had a local Daventry resident winning the men’s race so I’m hoping that the district makes it a double this year!”

The race is being held in support of Rugby Triathlon Club’s two charities: The Hoskyns Centre for the Disabled in Rugby and JDRF (the type 1 diabetes charity).

The race will start with a 400m swim at Daventry Leisure Centre, followed by a 20km bike ride through the surrounding countryside and finally a 5km run around Daventry Country Park with the finishing line right in front of the district council offices in Lodge Road.
