Kind-hearted individuals and organisations from across Daventry District have donated food items and entire hampers to support more than 40 families in need this Christmas.

Daventry District Council (DDC) teamed up with the Daventry and District Over Fifties Forum (DOF) and Daventry Food Bank to assemble a total of 42 Christmas Helping Hampers.

Generous residents, local organisations and businesses have contributed more than 1,400 items towards the hampers, which each contain essential ingredients for a special Christmas.

People have been dropping off their donations to DDC’s offices in Lodge Road. All hampers will be delivered from Monday, December 10, by Daventry Food Bank.

Councillor Deanna Eddon, who is treasurer and committee member of Daventry and District Over Fifties Forum which organised the campaign, said: “Once again we have had a very successful Christmas campaign and we are very pleased with the generous response from everyone who took part. We have received donations ranging from individual items to entire hampers and we would like to thank everyone who has very kindly contributed.”

Councillor Alan Hills, portfolio holder for community, culture and leisure, said: “We have been absolutely delighted by the support of local residents, organisations and businesses. We’d like to thank everyone who has taken part in this very special Christmas campaign.

“These hampers will make a real difference to a number of local families and individuals trying to make ends meet over the Christmas period.”
