Stephen Mold declared new Northamptonshire Police and Crime Commissioner

The Conservative candidate fought off stiff competition from Labour candidate Kevin McKeever to win at today’s (Friday) count in Kettering, which went to a second round.

He will take over from outgoing Conservative Adam Simmonds for a four-year term in the role.

Mold gained 58,175 votes, while McKeever gained a total of 49,161.

Mold gained the most votes in five of the seven wards in the initial round of voting, losing only Corby and Northampton to McKeever.

UKIP’s Sam Watts received the fewest amount of votes (27,708), and dropped out of the race after the first round.

The results of the first round of voting from each ward were as follows:

Wellingborough - Mold 4,424, McKeever 3,980, Watts 3,171.

Kettering - Mold 6,198, McKeever 4,830, Watts 4,031.

South Northamptonshire - Mold 7,530, McKeever 3,725, Watts 3,352.

Corby - Mold 2,007, McKeever 5,205, Watts 1,839.

East Northants - Mold 6,745, McKeever 3,972, Watts 3,600.

Daventry - Mold 6,745, McKeever 5,529, Watts 4,166.

Northampton - Mold 10,052, McKeever 13,774, Watts 7,549.

The voting saw an increased turnout of 22.5 per cent, up from 19.8 per cent in 2012.
