Soldiers say thank you
SOLDIERS from ‘D’ Squadron, Kings Royal Hussars, currently deployed in Afghanistan, have showed their appreciation for the village of Braunston.
Villagers have been sending ‘goodie’ parcels to the troops since April 2007 and have so far sent 1,099 containing anything from confectionary and toiletries to magazines.
Both residents and visitors to the village can donate items for the parcels via a box located on the counter of Braunston Village Stores and Post Office.
As an act of appreciation for the parcels received since the start of their deployment in May 2012, members of the squadron posed for a photograph holding up the sign ‘Thank you Braunston Village’.
Scheme coordinator Val Worrall said: “Receiving the photograph and accompanying letter gave everyone involved in the scheme a real buzz.”
Many letters of thanks have been received from members of the squadron all of which are displayed in the shop for people to read.
Mrs Worrall said: “It’s an incredible achievement and thanks go out to everyone who continues to support it. And of course this could not happen without the shop’s owners Wayne and Angela Foster.”
