WEEDON playing field was bustling with visitors at the weekend for the seventh annual village fete.

Scores of people turned out to have a go at archery and watch local dance troops on the Croft Way playing field on Saturday.

The fete was opened by Dave Green from Duston who was one of the 8,000 torchbearers in the London 2012 Summer Olympics Torch Relay.

This year’s fete theme was ‘Sport’ with Northampton Archery Club the main attraction. Fete chairman Libby Hart said: “It was an absolutely fantastic day. It was our seventh fete and must be the best yet.”

Visitors could have a go at shooting bows and arrows or in the village hall others could enjoy an art exhibition featuring local artists and a pottery workshop.

Proceeds from the day will go towards helping village groups.

This year’s total is still being counted but is usually in the region of £4,000.

Over the past six years the fete has raised £25,000 for the village. Mrs Hart said: “The money comes from the village and stays in the village.”
