A SCOUT hut has been given a new lease of life thanks to villagers and help from outside bodies.

Weedon Scout Hut has been given a total facelift in recent months.

The building dates back to 1962 and is a prefab structure which has lasted far beyond its predicted years.

In the past months Barclaycard, Daventry and District Housing’s community chest fund, the Northamptonshire Community Fund and Weedon Jubilee committee have helped transform the structure.

Scout leader Damian Hill said: “We have been able to transform the building’s structure dramatically, there’s also been a total new colour change on the exterior, new PVC windows, new guttering and lights, a total re-paint internally, new toilet furniture, and the disabled ramp access has been rebuilt.

“We are always looking at new ways to improve the building, and want others to hire the hut to benefit the longevity of the building.

“Using it in different ways will mean more people have an interest in it and the extra income can future-proof the Scouting heritage within the community of Weedon and its surrounding villages.”

As well as refurbishing its building, the group is hoping to expand.

However, like many Scout groups across the area, Weedon is suffering from a lack of adults to help run sessions.

Weedon Scout Group has been running in one form or another for around 100 years, currently it has both Scouts and Cubs sections.

Mr Hill said: “We are in need of a new Cub leader as soon as possible, plus we want to begin a Beaver colony.

“We have the interest among the villagers and children, but again need its leaders we really need to come forward.”
