Scooters and skateboards are worry for some villagers

ELDERLY people and parents in Braunston have expressed their concerns over scooters and skateboards being ridden quickly on pavements in the village.

A pre-Christmas street surgery conducted by Braunston and Welton Cllr Abigail Campbell and local PCSO Kev Thompson revealed it to be an issue among residents and has since become a Locally Identified Priority for Braunston.

After a long conversation with young people in Braunston, Cllr Campbell found they were frustrated at the lack of spaces for scooters and skateboards as fundraising for a skate park at Braunston playing field continues in the village.

Cllr Campbell said: “I’ll be attending a committee meeting early in the new year to work on some new funding bids. Young people have been very active in fundraising so far and their involvement gives the bids a much greater chance of success.”

Other issues raised through the surgeries included speeding through the village and parking which residents were able to convey to the Cllr and PCSO as they walked around the village. Further joint walking surgeries in Braunston and Welton are planned throughout 2013 with dates to come.
