School marks birthday with an open day

A SCHOOL has celebrated its half century anniversary with an open day exploring the school's history and future.

Guilsborough School opened its doors to past, present and future pupils as part of its 50th anniversary.

The open day gave people a chance to look around the school, where there were displays of memorabilia including past students’ work.

There were gladiator jousts, bouncy castle and bungee run at the event on Saturday, July 4.

The school has its roots in the Government’s expansion of education after the war and took its first pupils as Guilsborough Secondary Modern School in September 1958, but was officially opened in May 1959.

To celebrate pupils have been given memory sticks with the school’s anniversary logo on, and there are plans to raise money for a climbing wall.
