THE Santa Sleigh will once again be taking a trip around the Daventry district in the run-up to Christmas to raise funds for several local charities.

The annual event, which has been running for 48 years, is organised by Danetre Rotary Club and supported by a number of local organisations.

The proceeds are distributed by the Rotarians to help charities and good causes.

Santa will kick off with a trip to Long Buckby today (December 3) before visiting the Southbrook estate in Daventry the following day.

He will be then taking a trip out to the villages with a visit to Everdon and Flore on Wednesday, December 5 before heading back to Daventry and visiting New Forest and Royal Gardens on the Stefen Hill estate the day after.

On Friday, December 7, Father Christmas and his sleigh will be visiting houses in Newnham and Badby before heading up to the A45 to go and visit Braunston.

He will be having two trips to Daventry by going to the north of the Grange estate before going to The Dingle and The Slade on Monday, December 10.

This will then be followed by a trip to the Timken estate and Royal Orchard on Tuesday, December 11.

Santa will be visiting Weedon on Wednesday, December 12 before going to the Ashby Fields and Middlemore estates in Daventry on Thursday, December 13.

On Friday, December 14, the sleigh will be going to Staverton, Welton and Norton before going to the Lang Farm estate in Daventry on Monday, December 17.

The sleigh will then go to the south of the Grange estate, Cherry Orchard and the Headlands in Daventry on Tuesday, December 18.

The final trip out to the villages will see Santa visit Kilsby and Barby on Wednesday, December 19.

The Santa Sleigh then returns to Daventry to visit the Inlands, the town centre and Drayton estate on Thursday, December 20.

The three-week tour will then be finished off with a trip to Danetre Drive, St Andrew’s Drive and Daneholme Avenue on Friday, December 21.

Last year Daventry Rotary Club invited local charities to join them on the route.

They were able to keep proceeds for their own causes and a similar plan will be held this year.

The Santa Sleigh managed to raise more than £8,500 during the 2011 collection which was split among 10 local charities.

These included Danetre Rotary Club, Daventry Rotary Club, Daventry’s Citizen’s Advice Bureau, young people’s counselling service Time2Talk, Preston Capes Cricket Club, the Scouts and Braunston Memorial Hall.
