Princess Anne receiving a posy of flowers from school children at her visit to Brixworth Country Park to unveil a memorial to firefighters.

Princess Anne spent a morning in the Daventry area at two events.

Her first visit of the day was to Brixworth Country Park where she officially unveiled a memorial to commemorate and honour Northamptonshire’s firefighters and to provide a quiet place for remembrance and reflection by people who have been affected by fire in some way.

The memorial stands 9ft tall by 3ft wide and is made from black granite, set against a background of white Portland stone. The stone was supplied by Boden & Ward Stone Masons from Flore and the carving for the memorial was executed by Paul Timms.

She then went to visit Northamptonshire Police’s new Criminal Justice Centre in Northampton before coming to Hankook Tyres in Daventry.

The princess was at the tyre firm’s new warehouse in town as patron of the charity Transaid which works with Hankook.

She met with local fundraisers Mike Olsen and Ben Thompson who took part in a cycleride across Madagascar raising £6,600 for Transaid
