May
Long Buckby Football Club were crowned UCL Premier Division Champions, The club won 35 matches out of 40 in the season but were denied promotion as the ground at Station Road did not meet the right requirements.
All of the seats on Daventry District Council (DDC) were up for grabs due to changes to the district’s boundaries. The Conservatives retain overall control but Labour gained four seats taking their presence to six on the council.
A Manchester United Legends XI featuring Champions League winner Denis Irwin, Ray Wilkins and Frank Stapleton turned up for a charity match at Daventry Town Football Club. A total of more than £20,000 was raised at the game.
June
A task panel is set up to investigate complaints over bin collections and grass mowing in the Daventry area. Council contractors Enterprise were later fined as the complaints more than doubled.
Calls were made to reduce the speed limit on the A361 near to Ashby St Ledgers after a 19-year-old from Coventry lost her life. It was later reduced from 60 to 40mph with the signs erected in December.
The owners of Daventry Leisure Centre announced a £500,000 makeover. The refurbishment from Everyone Active was finished in October and saw a new gym, customer service area, changing rooms and dance studio.
July
The Abbey Junior School in Daventry was put into special measures by the government. Ofsted gave the school the lowest possible ranking and acting headteacher Liza Davies vowed to turn the school around. A follow up inspection held in November found it was making good progress.
Daventry Town Football Club manager Mark Kinsella left the club. It follows a cost-cutting exercise by owner Iain Humphrey and the former Premiership star left along with his assistant Andy Reece. Darran Foster later took charge at the club.
A £375,000 cannabis farm was discovered in the heart of the town centre. The home in Kinglsey Road was raided by police who arrested two people in the incident. Dung Pham was sentenced to 21 months imprisonment in October after pleading guilty to growing cannabis.
August
A pub re-opened its doors just one day after a severe fire. The Olde Coach House at Ashby St Ledgers caught alight and saw the staff accomodation gutted in the blaze.
A paedophile from Daventry was jailed for seven years. Peter Barrett, 48, of Jubilee Road pleaded guilty to raping an 11-year-old boy in Northampton.
A Daventry pharmacy came to the rescue when a mum delivered her baby in the back office. Staff at the Day and Night Pharmacy helped Kelly Park give birth to Tommy.
