Residents thanked for their understanding over bin collection changes following Friday's tragedy in Daventry

Daventry District Council’s waste and recycling contractor Amey took the decision to suspend waste and recycling collections on Friday (April 9) as a mark of respect to crew member Kane Beard, who died in the tragic incident in Ashby Road, Daventry.

Collections resumed on Saturday, April 9, including collections from outstanding Friday properties, however waste and recycling collections to some properties are currently outstanding as crews catch up on their rounds. It is anticipated that there may be some disruption to services throughout the week.

Residents who have not yet received their scheduled collection since Friday are asked to leave their bins and boxes out for collection over the next two days. There is no need to contact the council to report a missed collection during this period. Households should also be aware that collections may take place at a different time of the day.

Daventry District Council’s chief executive Ian Vincent said: “This tragic incident has caused deep shock and distress among our colleagues at Amey and our thoughts are with them and Kane’s family and friends during this sad and difficult time.

“We are working with Amey to do everything possible to get waste and recycling collections back on track in these exceptional circumstances and we thank residents for their patience and understanding.”

Rob Edmondson, director environmental services, at Amey said: “We apologise for any inconvenience and plan to catch up on all collections as soon as possible.

“We would like to thank the local community for their understanding at this difficult time.

“Our thoughts and deepest sympathies are with Kane’s family and those affected by Friday’s tragic events.”
