Report finds calls to police faced delays

A REPORT into missed 999 calls by Northamptonshire Police in 2012 has found the service fell “well below expectations”.

At the end of last year, Police Commissioner Adam Simmonds published a scrutiny report looking at how 999 calls were handled by the force.

The report said: “During 2012, the number of calls to Northamptonshire Police which were answered quickly – or at all – fell well below customer expectations.

“From the low points of 2012, call-handling performance has shown a dramatic improvement, with service levels for answering both emergency (999) and non-emergency calls being attained from November onwards.”

Chief Constable Adrian Lee admitted there had been cuts to the force control room, which deals with 999 and non-emergency calls, which led to “periods of poor service”.
