Daventry’s main Post Office will be refurbished in March, with new counters and extended opening hours.
The work will see the post office counters in Kam’s News in Sheaf Street close for two weeks, however the rest of the shop will remain open.
Kam Patel, who owns the shop, said: “We will be keeping the rest of the shop open for people.
“The refurbishment will see the back of the store, where the Post Office counters are now, getting refurbished and having new counters installed.
“We will also have a new Post Office counter at the front of the shop at the main tills.
“That means we will be able to offer Post Office services outside the hours of the main Post Office counters, which will benefit customers.”
After the work the post office will have five serving positions. The new opening hours will be 7.30am to 6pm Monday to Saturday.
Post Office area manager Mark Jacobs said: “The modernisation is part of a major investment programme to convert the Post Office network to new-style branches and this investment, the largest in the history of the Post Office, marks a commitment to no more branch closure programmes.”
Daventry Post Office will close for refurbishment on Wednesday, March 5 at 5.30pm, and the new-look branch will open on Thursday, March 20 at 1pm.
The nearest alternative Post Offices are Edinburgh Square, on Daventry’s Headlands, and Long Buckby.
