Public meeting at West Haddon Village Hall to discuss new homes

Villagers have been left feeling with mixed feelings after plans for up to 100 new homes were revealed at a public meeting in West Haddon.

People were able to attend a public meeting held at West Haddon Village Hall on Tuesday to give their views to developers Davidsons.

The homes will be on land to the east of the village between Guilsborough Road, Northampton Road and the A428 bypass.

The number of homes has not yet been confirmed by the developers but will be between 75 and 100.

One of the villagers Paul Butler said: “My only concern about this development is whether the primary school can cope with the extra places.

“I think it will be good to see the village grow. It is a sign of progress.”

Chairman of the planning committee for West Haddon Parish Council, Cllr Alan Perks, said he was worried about other planning applications in the village.

He said: “There are just over 600 homes in the village. With this application and others in the pipeline, there will be an extra 300 homes. That is a 50 per cent increase in the size of the village.”

The developers have said 29 per cent of the new homes will be affordable and are hopeful of submitting a planning application for the
site within the next few months.
