Newnham Primary School marked National Storytelling week by the pupils learning new techniques to bring a tale to life.

The Reception Class children put their newly learnt skill to use in an assembly on Thursday last week.

Youngsters in all classes spent time during the week to learn different ways to read, tell and understand stories.

Headteacher Kim Cresswell said: “All classes have been using storytelling techniques to bring stories to life by ‘walking the story’ and ‘story mapping’.

“This has helped us to learn the sequence of events in stories and to use this framework to invent stories of our own. The reception assembly demonstrated this to the rest of the school and parents.”

National Storytelling Week was conceived in the year 2000 to increase public awareness of the art, practice and value of oral storytelling – the oldest art form in the world.
