Police want views on searches

THE police are asking anyone who has been stopped and searched by officers in the county, to share their views and experience.

The new survey is part of a drive to raise awareness and understanding of police stop and search powers and ensure people who are searched are aware of their rights.

The survey takes about five minutes to complete and can be filled out online at www.surveymonkey.com/s/stopandsearch2012.

Superintendent Andy Cox, lead for the force’s stop and search working group, said: “Nearly 8,000 stop and searches have been carried out by officers over the last 12 months and we are very keen for anyone who has experienced this – at any time – to take part in the survey by completing our questionnaire.

“For example, we want to know if the officer gave you their name, explained why they had stopped you and what they were looking for.

“We also want to know how you felt about the search and if anything could have been done to improve the overall experience.”
