Plan for the future of Weedon opened to public comments

People are being invited to have their say on a planning document which will help shape the development of Weedon Bec.

A Neighbourhood Development Plan has been prepared by a steering group with support from the parish council.

Daventry District Council says the plan includes proposals for supporting: investment in recreational facilities and open spaces; the restoration of Weedon Depot and environmental improvements along the Nene Valley; business and employment opportunities; and the protection and enhancement of community facilities.

The district council also says the plan “proposes seven sites across the village where a total of 122 new homes could be built up to 2029”.

The plan was submitted to Daventry District Council recently and is now subject to a six-week consultation to allow people to make comments on it.

People can view the draft Neighbourhood Development Plan for Weedon Bec at www.daventrydc.gov.uk/weedonbecneighbourhoodplan or by visiting The Plume of Feathers pub, in West Street, Weedon Bec, NN7 4QU or Weedon Post Office, in Church Street, NN7 4PL.

It can also be viewed at DDC’s offices, in Lodge Road, Daventry, NN11 4FP.

The consultation was launched on Friday, February 5 and will close at 4.30pm on Friday, 18 March 2016. Any comments made during the period will be passed to the independent examiners appointed to inspect the plans.

Following the consultation and examination process, if the results are positive, parishioners will be asked in a referendum whether they support their proposed Neighbourhood Development Plan. The plan must receive support from more than half of those voting for it to be ‘made’ by DDC.

If made it will form part of the wider development plan for Daventry District up to 2029 and will be used to help decide planning applications in the Weedon Bec neighbourhood area.
