Parking row threatened to put skids on Santa’s sleigh
SANTA faced a potential parking ticket after a complaint over his sleigh in Bowen Square on Saturday.
Father Christmas and his helpers from Danetre Rotary Club park their sleigh in the shopping square car park on Saturdays in the run-up to Christmas as part of their charity collections.
They have a street collection licence, however a complaint on Saturday, December 15, raised the question whether his sleigh had the necessary permits from Daventry District Council to park in the bays, which are short-stay ones with a one-and-a-half hour time limit.
Without the necessary permissions to park there over the time limit, Santa may have had to cancel his visit this Saturday.
The visits are organised by Danetre Rotary Club as part of Santa’s tour of the town and surrounding villages.
The Bowen Square visits collect an average £400 each day which, along with the rest of the collection, is then distributed to local charities and good causes by the rotarians.
After being contacted by the Daventry Express, DDC leader Chris Millar said: “I’ve spoken to officers, and I can confirm Santa has the necessary permits to park his sleigh in Bowen Square for the collections!”
