Nostalgia: A trolley full of goodies

Back in the 1970s, every Tuesday the women of the WRVS used to take a trolley loaded with fresh fruit and other goodies around the Grange care home.

The sales raised money to help purchase items for the home’s residents to enjoy.

In 1976 profits from the trolley sales over the past 12 months allowed the WRVS to buy the residents £84 worth of garden chairs and umbrella tables so they could sit outside in comfort and enjoy the summer.

The Daventry branch of the WRVS – Women’s Royal Voluntary Service – had visited the Grange care home since it opened. One WRVS volunteer described the residents as a “very cheerful lot” and said they hoped the money raised and the items bought would only make them more so.
