Tomorrow (Friday) sees the opening of a charity shop in Sheaf Street, Daventry.

The Algernon Trust Animal Sanctuary, based in Whittlebury is opening the new store.

Sarah Barrett from the charity said: “Though some people may be disappointed that it is another charity shop, the Trust serves the whole of Northamptonshire and beyond working tirelessly rescuing and re-homing animals, many of which have been abandoned or abused.

“The registered charity now runs entirely on donations and fundraising. Finance is a continual worry as the bills for food and vets fees are immense. “Requests for help are endless and animals are often taken in by the Trust when other large charities cannot help.

“It is hoped that the shop will not only bring in desperately needed funds, but also raise awareness of what the Trust does in helping the local community and further afield.

“It is also hoped that more volunteers will come forward to dog walk and help at the sanctuary, and that more fosterers and new homes will be found for the many animals in their care. Please support this very worthwhile small local charity.”
