Work will start later this month to clear vegetation from around the junction of Lodge Road and Eastern Way.

The trees and shrubs need to be cleared by Daventry District Council now before birds start nesting in them, although Northamptonshire County Council had yet to set a date for when the roadworks will start.

A roundabout at the junction with Lodge Road, new kerbs and a new cycleway is set to be built to help serve the proposed Town Centre Vision Site 3 on both sides of Eastern Way.

Site 3 is better known as the Waterspace development of restaurants, cafes, and possibly homes and offices on the Eastern Way playing field, fronting onto a new water feature which DDC wants to become the marina at the end of the Daventry Canal Arm. The new roundabout would provide an access road to part of this development.

Site 3 also includes land on the southern verge of Eastern Way, where a health centre was originally planned for the land between the road and the council car park.

A new footpath on the southern verge and new crossings on Eastern Way are also planned to help connect the proposed Site 3 development to the town centre.

The clearance work at Eastern Way will take no more than a month to complete, and is not expected to cause any disruption to traffic or pedestrians.
