THE Daventry Centre of Northampton College is seeking your views to help shape the future of its regeneration.

As part of the college’s re-launch, which has already seen the salon facilities transformed, new head Ellen Buttler is launching a Have Your Say survey.

Ms Buttler, who has worked in post-16 education and training for more than 20 years, aims to provide vocational skills for the people of Daventry through work-related training and wants to ensure residents’ views are at the heart of that initiative.

Ms Buttler said: “I want to turn things around at the college. Instead of us saying what we can offer I want people to tell us what they want us to offer them.

“I want to make this centre the life of the community and one that caters for all needs and is full of a wide variety of activities.”

As part of this initiative Ms Buttler is open to suggestions about what kind of courses should run at the college, this ranges from academic to what she terms ‘leisure and pleasure’ courses.

She said: “We are asking people of all ages to help us shape the curriculum.

“There could be people who don’t want a qualification they just want to learn something like sugar craft and we want to hear from them too.”

The college will be working with local businesses to find out what skills they require pupils to have for their trade.

By better understanding what skills they seek, Ms Buttler hopes to be in a better position to get people into work after training. Daventry Job Centre will also work with the college to look at ways of helping the unemployed into work.

Mr Buttler added: “I am delighted to have the opportunity to do this because I am absolutely passionate about education. I think it transforms lives.”

Director of marketing at the college, Susan Lewis, added: “We have a big site in Daventry and we want to be an even bigger part of the community.”

The survey will run until November 30 and forms can be collected from the college reception on Badby Road West, from the Daventry Express office on High Street or online at www.tinyurl.com/haveyoursay-daventry2012.

The college will also open its doors on Tuesday November 13 for people to have their say in person between 5pm and 7pm.
