More than 160 street parties planned for county

MOTORISTS warned to expect local delays over the bank holiday due to road closures for street parties.

A weekend of revelry and family fun is expected in the county this weekend after Northamptonshire County Council approved more than 160 road closure applications for street parties to celebrate the Queen’s Jubilee.

Parties will be taking place right across the county from our largest towns to some of the smallest villages with festivities taking place on each of the four days of the extended Bank Holiday weekend.

With celebrations so widespread the county council is advising motorists that there could be some local disruption to travel plans and is asking that drivers allow plenty of time for their journeys to avoid frustration.

Cllr Andre Gonzalez De Savage, county council cabinet member for infrastructure and public protection, said: “This is fantastic news for the county and I’m delighted that the county council could help people make their party plans a reality.

“Last year for the Royal Wedding there we approved about 40 road closures so street parties could take place and this figure is an astonishing increase on that.

“It goes to show what a tremendous success the celebrations were last year and that we have a incredible weekend in store to celebrate what is a very special occasion for the Queen.”
