A CAMPAIGN against the £15 million Onley Marina has been launched.
The first meeting of the Stop the Monster Marina at Onley, headed by the owner of Braunston Marina Tim Coghlan took place at the marina on Friday last week.
Campaigners against the 550-berth marina have argued it will add to the congestion on the canal network and this latest move is not designed to stamp out the competition.
Mr Coghlan said: “This campaign is not an attempt by the marina trade to gang up on a potential new competitor.
“The proof is that our campaign has received enormous support from the boaters and other canal users.
“Nearly a hundred letters of objection have already been filed with the Daventry planners – and we have only just started our campaign.
“The simple fact is the Braunston Canal is already the most congested on the network. And as this summer has shown, there are water-shortage issues.”
The plans for the marina, near to the prison in Onley, will be determined by Daventry District Council in the near future.
