Long-serving Daventry district councillor dies

FRANK Wiig, who served on Daventry District Council for 12 years, has passed away.

Daventry District Council has paid tribute to Cllr Wiig who died on the evening of Thursday, August 30 following a long battle with cancer.

Cllr Wiig was a ward councillor for Brixworth for 12 years after being elected in May 2000.

He lived in Brixworth for 25 years with his wife, fellow councillor Liz Wiig, and held various portfolios and responsibilities, including chairman of the planning committee, deputy leader of the council and chairman of the council.

Cllr Chris Millar, leader of DDC, said: “It is terribly sad news to hear about Frank passing away and our deepest sympathies and condolences go to Liz and the rest of his family.

“Frank always worked for the best interests of the community in Brixworth and the district right until the end, despite his illness.

“He was a popular and enthusiastic councillor and he will sorely be missed.”

Ian Vincent, DDC chief executive, said: “Frank was an enthusiastic and hard working member who was respected by staff who dealt with him, and his contribution will be a sad loss to the council. Our thoughts are with Liz and the family at this time.”
