Three talented Daventry kickboxers, including two aged under 10, are to represent England at a world championships.
Jack Cronin-McGrath, five, Shannon Kennedy, eight and Sam Cullen were all left delighted at the chance to represent their country.
All three are students of Gordon Birch, current members of the kickboxing club at the G-Force Martial Arts Centre in Alvis Way on the Royal Oak Industrial Estate in Daventry. They will be part of a team who will compete at theWorld Kickboxing Championships to be held in Albufeira in Portugal.
Jack’s father Ryan McGrath said: “It is fantastic for Jack to have reached the stage of qualification at the age of just five years old,
“He has been really helped along by everyone at the club and is really enjoying it. He can’t wait to get out there.”
He qualified by getting gold in the Under 6s category at a kickboxing championships held in Manchester.
Eight-year-old Shannon got silver in the under eight category.
Her father Roger said: “It is an absolutely amazing achievement. She has worked really hard.
“We hope now that we will be able to get them sponsorship to give them the best possible chance in Portugal.”
Sam Cullen, an officer with Leicestershire Police, qualified by getting a silver medal in the ladies 35+ veterans section.
She said: “I am massively excited about it. I have only been fighting for the past six months so this is a massive achievement.
“I can’t wait for November to come around. Work has been fantastic in supporting me so I am very grateful for their help.”
