Just in time for summer, a new ice-cream parlour has opened its doors in Daventry town centre.

Culaccino’s first day of business was on Wednesday last week.

The ice-cream parlour, in Foundry Court, has been opened by husband and wife Martin and Kim Bond.

Kim said: “My husband has wanted to open an ice-cream parlour for some time.

“It just so happened that it all fell into place.

“We decided that Daventry needs somewhere like this – something different.

“We do fabulous coffee – we have guest coffees every week, two on the go at any time. At the moment we have a London blend from Tudor times.

“We do 22 different flavours of ice-cream, three sorbets, diabetic ice-cream, and gluten-free as well.

“Plus sweet or savoury pancakes/crepes and waffles, and other specials.”

The name ‘Culaccino’ is Italian, and refers to the mark left on a table by a cold glass or dish.

Kim said: “We’ve had a good week since we opened. Saturday was really busy, and again on Sunday for Father’s Day I think. Our banana and Nutella pancakes were the most popular.

“We’ve never done anything like this before. I was a company secretary and Martin is ex-BT.

“All the rest of our family is in the service industry, so I guess we’ve joined them now as well.

People can eat in, or take out. What we want to get going is a take-out range, but we need to know from the customers what they want so we can have it ready to go.”

Culaccino is open from 8am to 7pm Monday to Friday, and from 11am to 6pm on Sundays.
