Houses to get £12m makeover

AROUND £12 million is being invested to repair houses across the Daventry district.

Daventry and District Housing (DDH) and Rockingham Forest Housing Association (RFHA) have joined forces on the four-year programme, which will be completed by housing refurbishment specialist Lovell.

For DDH, which is part of Futures Housing Group, the contract will form the second phase of its home improvement programme, which was launched in 2007.

The firm will visit 1,000 homes to complete kitchen and bathroom replacements, rewires and heating upgrades where needed.

The contract also includes a requirement for Lovell to appoint one new apprenticeship for every £1m generated in turnover.

Chief operations officer of Futures Housing Group Martin Sherman said: “This is a great example of how housing providers can work together to achieve efficiency savings that result in tangible benefits for their customers.

“Daventry and District Housing and Rockingham Forest Housing Association were both looking to appoint a new major improvement contractor at the same time.

“We are delighted to have been able to work so closely with residents at both organisations to find a solution that meets their needs. We look forward to a close working relationship in the years ahead as the contract is delivered.”

RFHA chief executive Rosemarie Anderson said: “It is a win-win situation for everyone. Residents will get a great quality product and the savings we have made mean that we can do more work than we planned. We are also very pleased to be working in partnership with Futures Housing Group in this way.”
