Healthy future for Daventry Leisure Centre

THE new manager of Daventry Leisure Centre hopes the refurbishment will mark a new chapter of success for the facility.

Work started on Monday on the makeover costing half-a-million pounds. It comes after the running of the leisure centre moved from Daventry District Council to Everyone Active at the start of July.

The centre’s contracts manager Luke Parratt said: “The one thing we wanted to do as soon as we arrived was to give it a bit of a facelift.

“It had suffered over the years from a lack of investment and that is why we wanted to make this change.”

The changes will see improvements to the customer service area, redecoration of the wet side changing village, dance studio and a cafe.

The current gym will double in size with new equipment and there will be a new dedicated spin studio.

However the facilities will not be the only thing to change under the new management.

Mr Parratt added: “The motto we have at Everyone Active is 30 minutes a day, five times a week exercise. Therefore, we want to make that possible for people.

“It is a change which can help make a massive difference to everyone in the wider community.

“One thing we have done is repaired the wave machine in the children’s pool. It has not worked for a while and little things can make a big difference.

“The staff who are here already have adapted to the changes very quickly which has been very pleasing.”

And prices for individual classes and gym membership have been either reduced or frozen.

The centre has come in for regular criticism from customers in the past over cleanliness, but a deep clean is currently taking place.

Mr Parratt said: “We want the people of Daventry to come and have a look at the leisure centre as it is now and also when the makeover is finished. I hope people will see this as a great centre.”

The work is expected to be completed in early Autumn and a free family open day is planned for late October. For more information about the changes visit www.everyoneactive.com.
