The Daventry Express brought a touch of festive cheer to children who faced a Christmas in hospital.

Gusher editor David Summers made a special trip to Northampton General Hospital’s Disney Ward on Friday to present a sack full of gifts for children of all ages.

The toys were donated by readers who were invited to put a parcel under the tree when attending the recent charity gala at Fawsley Hall.

The gala, organised by the Gusher, acted as a festive finale to the paper’s successful year of fundraising for the Jago Worrall Foundation.

Sue Faulkner, NGH play service co-ordinator at Northampton General, said: “We’re always pleased that people remember our patients at Christmas and we’re very grateful to the Daventry Express for organising this delivery of presents for the children’s wards.

“They will help brighten up the lives of some of the sick children in hospital at this special time of year.”

Daventry Express deputy editor Amanda Chalmers, who organised the collection, said: “We would like to thank everyone who donated a gift for the hospital at the recent gala.

“While the emphasis of the night was to boost funds for the Foundation, we felt it was important to also use the opportunity to remember many of the other local poorly children who could really benefit from some cheering up after facing Christmas in hospital.”
