The new principal of The Parker E-ACT Academy has been described as an ‘outstanding practitioner’ who will quickly put the school on the road to recovery.
Andrew Mackereth’s appointment will usher in a new era for the academy, which earlier this year was put into special measures by the government body Ofsted.
The academy’s new chair of governors, Dame Marcia Twelftree, said: “We are absolutely delighted that we have been successful in making this appointment. He is an absolutely outstanding practitioner and we are very much looking forward to him starting the new academic year.”
Interviews for the position of principal were carried out this week and, according to Dame Marcia, Mr Mackereth was an obvious choice.
She said: “We were very impressed by what he had to say and he was the unanimous choice of everybody on the interview panel.
“We currently have an action plan drawn up after the Ofsted verdict. Andrew will come in and I’m sure have his own ideas about how to move the school forward.”
Mr Mackereth’s appointment also follows the recent arrival of new heads of science and maths.
Dame Twelftree said: “The head of science and maths are also outstanding practitioners in their field and are already starting to make a huge difference in the few days they have been here.
“I can reassure parents I can see the green shoots of recovery here and we will get out of special measures.”
