People who are struggling to afford home repairs are being encouraged to apply for a grant.
The Home Repairs Assistance Grant is available to homeowners aged 60 and over who are in receipt of a means-tested benefit, or low income families in receipt of a means-tested benefit.
It provides grants of up to £5,000 to fund work including the replacement or repair of central heating boilers and radiators, updates and repairs to domestic electrical installations, replacement windows and doors and roof repairs.
Applications can be made through Daventry District Council and South Northamptonshire Council’s Care and Repair Service, which offers practical advice and guidance to people who need repairs or adaptations so they can carry on living in comfort and security in their own homes.
Councillor Richard Atterbury, Daventry District Council’s housing and health portfolio holder, said: “Home repairs can be expensive but these grants are specifically designed to provide practical help with small-scale repairs, improvements or adaptations.
“I would urge people who think they might be eligible for a Home Repairs Assistance Grant to contact the Care and Repair service to find out more.”
